The panel over your mouth and chin is knitted open. Not a thinner fabric, not a fabric that claims to breathe — actual perforations you can see through. Your breath passes out through the holes instead of soaking into the material in front of your face, so the fabric stays dry and keeps insulating. The rest is a thermal knit that holds heat across your head and neck, with the structure knitted straight into the fabric rather than stitched, so there are no seam ridges to press into your skin under a helmet or a hat band.

If you wear glasses.

Warm breath rising off a covered mouth is what puts fog on your lenses. Here the mesh sits directly in front of the mouth and vents forward, and your nose stays under solid knit rather than inside the opening, so less of your breath is channelled up your face. It is not a guarantee against fogging in every condition — nothing is — but it is the part of the design that matters most for it.
